The Health Data Science team develops novel algorithms and features that expand WHOOP’s health capabilities, spanning women’s health, regulated medical features, wellness monitoring, longevity research, and emerging health insights. By combining continuous physiological data with clinical research and data science expertise, we deliver features that are both scientifically rigorous and deeply impactful for our members.

As a Data Science Manager on the Health team, you will lead a team of data scientists and research scientists driving projects critical to WHOOP’s success. You’ll balance program execution with people leadership, ensuring the team delivers impactful health features while fostering professional growth.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • People Management: Mentor, coach, and develop a high-performing team of data scientists and research scientists. Provide guidance on career growth, skill development, and performance improvement.
  • Program Management: Oversee the execution of multiple data science projects within the Data Science Health Team. Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
  • Resource Allocation: Optimize resource allocation to maximize team efficiency and project outcomes. Coordinate with other departments to secure necessary resources and support for team initiatives.
  • Roadmapping: Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to develop and maintain a comprehensive roadmap for the Health Team's data science initiatives. Ensure alignment with company objectives and market trends.
  • Dependency Management: Identify and mitigate dependencies across projects to minimize risks and ensure smooth execution. Proactively communicate with stakeholders to manage expectations and resolve conflicts.
  • Team Support: Act as a supportive leader, fostering a collaborative and inclusive team culture. Provide guidance and assistance to overcome challenges and achieve team goals.
  • Communication: Serve as a primary point of contact for communicating project status, risks, and opportunities to senior leadership and stakeholders. Facilitate effective communication within the team to ensure clarity and alignment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field, Master’s or PhD preferred.
  • Proven experience (5+ years) managing data science teams or similar technical teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of data science methodologies, tools, and techniques, with the ability to provide high-level technical guidance.
  • Exceptional leadership and management skills, with a track record of developing and motivating individuals to achieve their full potential.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to prioritize initiatives, allocate resources effectively, and drive results in line with business objectives.
  • Experience in the healthcare or wearable device industry is a plus.

This role is based in the WHOOP office located in Boston, MA. The successful candidate must be prepared to relocate if necessary to work out of the Boston, MA office.
