Job Description

Job purpose

The Estimator is an integral part of the American Products Sales Team. The Estimator works with the Inside and Outside Sales Team, Engineering, Purchasing and Customer Service to provide accurate estimates for our customers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Works with the Sales Team to support proposal submitted, determining scope of proposal, and preparing the estimate.

Reviews and understands all aspects of the Request for Proposal (RFP), if need will talk to sales and/or the customer before beginning estimate.

Obtains all necessary information, specifications, and drawings for the product to be estimated.

Checks the Bill of Material (BOM) for completeness and accuracy of part numbers, quantity, and material used, including type of finish;

Reviews prints submitted by the customer to provide a clear and detailed quote;

Communicates with the customer in a professional manner, in order to complete the needed information package;

Coordinates with other departments within the company to assemble proposal inputs;

Ensures that the proposal deadlines are met;

Prepares the estimate.

Maintains files/records for all related source documents pertaining to product cost;

Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education

Bachelors or Associates degree in Business or equivalate work experience preferred

Specialized Knowledge and Experience

Previous estimating experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.

3D Modeling, Solid Works, and AutoCad background/experience is preferred.

Ability to read and interpret technical documentation correctly (i.e., drawings, BOMs, specifications, etc.)

PC Skills
  • Microsoft Word - intermediate level
  • Microsoft Excel - intermediate level
  • Microsoft PowerPoint - beginner level
  • Microsoft Outlook - intermediate level, preferred
Other Skills
  • Requires the interpersonal skills to interact and collaborate with wide variety of internal personnel.
  • Must be able to interact professionally, appropriately, and courteously with customers, co-workers and other outside parties.
  • Mechanical/ Electrical aptitude.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal;
  • Must be detail oriented, with the ability to successfully follow-through.
