POSITION SUMMARY
The Independent Living Program (ILP) Skills Trainer creates, provides, and coordinates services and activities with assigned DHS clients ages 14-23 years of age. The ILP Skills Trainer will provide mentorship, skill building, and emotional support to clients and their guardian(s), as needed, in an effort to increase the client’s independent living skills. The ILP Skills Trainer will cultivate positive relationships, build independent living skills, and help clients move forward towards a safe and healthy lifestyle. Performs assignments with supervision or independently, requiring initiative and judgment in conduct of work. All work is performed in compliance with organizational guidelines and policies, as well as all applicable laws.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
The ILP Skills Trainer reports directly to the Independent Living Program (ILP) Coordinator. This is not a supervisory position. This position has an introductory period of three (3) months.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in varied residential and community environments based on assigned caseload. The conditions of a client’s home and environment may vary. This position is frequently exposed to loud noises, outside weather conditions such as heat, cold, and humidity. Occasional exposure to chemical solutions and Bloodborne Pathogens (body fluids) may occur. Risk of verbal and physical threats and harm from clients is possible. Travel is expected for required trainings and providing transportation to clients. ILP Skills Trainers will use their own vehicle for transportation of youth and mileage reimbursement is available for this position. PHYSICAL AND MENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the essential job functions satisfactorily. This position involves periods of prolonged sitting and standing and use of computer equipment. This position requires the physical and mental capabilities to read information printed on paper and displayed on computer monitors; hear, speak, and communicate verbally using the English language; cognitive thinking and mathematical calculation capabilities; manual dexterity to manipulate papers, files, financial records, keyboard, 10-key, mouse, and telephone. This position requires walking, crouching, bending, stooping, twisting, turning, balancing, climbing steps/stairs, regular limb extension, pinching, grasping, moving, lifting, and carrying objects of 10 or more pounds frequently. Occasional driving required locally and long distance. Specific vision abilities are required to include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception and operating a motor vehicle. Reasonable accommodations will be made to otherwise qualify individuals with disabilities and known limitations. The ILP Skills Trainer must promote safe working practices; supports an environment of mental and physical well-being.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

Associate’s Degree AND one (1) year work experience in Human Service/Mental Health field.
