School-Based ASL Interpreter
Position Overview
We are seeking a qualified American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to support students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing in a school-based setting. The interpreter will facilitate effective communication between students, teachers, staff, and peers to ensure full access to the educational environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide accurate, clear interpretation between spoken English and American Sign Language (ASL) in classroom and school-related settings
- Support students during academic instruction, school activities, meetings, and special events
- Interpret classroom discussions, lectures, assignments, and assessments while maintaining neutrality
- Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and related service providers
- Adapt interpreting style to meet the student’s age, language level, and educational needs
- Assist in promoting student independence and access without altering instructional content
Required Qualifications
- EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) with a qualifying score OR
- RID Certification (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf)
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English
- Experience working with K–12 students preferred
- Ability to pass all required background checks and school clearances
