Tax Preparer

Location: Walla Walla, WA 99362
Schedule: Full-time | Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM
Work Model: 100% On-Site
Compensation: $70,000–$100,000 base salary (based on experience) plus benefits

Overview

CornerStone Professional Placement has partnered with a respected and well-established CPA firm in Walla Walla, WA, known for delivering personalized tax and accounting services to individuals and small businesses.

The firm is seeking a Tax Preparer to join its growing team. This full-time, on-site role offers a professional and collaborative environment with direct mentorship from experienced CPAs. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience preparing individual and small business tax returns in a public accounting setting and values accuracy, timeliness, and strong client relationships.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and file federal and state income tax returns for individuals, partnerships, and small businesses
• Review financial records, supporting documentation, and prior-year filings to ensure accuracy and completeness
• Identify applicable deductions, credits, and adjustments to maximize client outcomes
• Communicate with clients to obtain necessary information and clarify tax-related inquiries
• Maintain well-organized and confidential client files
• Stay current on federal and Washington state tax laws and filing requirements
• Support senior accountants and CPAs during peak tax season and assist with year-end projects

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in tax preparation or public accounting (CPA firm experience strongly preferred)
• Solid understanding of federal and Washington state tax regulations
• Proficiency with tax preparation software such as UltraPro, Drake, Lacerte, ProSeries, or similar platforms
• Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and time-management skills
• Effective verbal and written communication abilities
• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field preferred
• Active PTIN required or ability to obtain prior to start date
