Job Description

Our mission is to improve the UX of the internet. We can only achieve that goal with a performant, resilient, and cost-effective product. We’re looking to expand our Production Engineering team to meet the ambitious goals that will take Chromatic into our next phase of scaling.

Our elastic browser rendering grid runs on AWS, taking millions of snapshots daily while maintaining resilience, consistency, and fast performance. To achieve that, we’re constantly dreaming, architecting, implementing, maintaining, and adapting our solutions to meet the demands of our expanding customer base. As we become an integral part of the development workflow at some of the biggest companies in the world, we also need to continue to improve the security of our applications so that those customers will feel safe in choosing and staying with us. We need an experienced hand to help keep our ambitious promises to our customers when they choose Chromatic.

You'll join our growing Production Engineering team of DevOps and Site Reliability Engineers at an exciting time, as we move from our core mission of keeping Chromatic as stable, cost-effective, and performant as it already is, to architecting the future of the platform as we continue to scale. Whether you’re a Terraform whisperer or a CVE detective, we need your unique skills to enable our engineering teams to build out what they haven’t yet dreamt of.

If you’re motivated by tackling complex technical challenges alongside smart, capable, and empathetic people, let’s chat!

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain critical infrastructure in AWS using Terraform that enables millions of browser sessions daily and scales to meet demand

  • Monitor for outsized impacts within our environments, taking mitigation action in the short term and advocating for and implementing long-lasting changes that prevent issues from recurring

  • Design and develop new workflows and tooling (automation scripts, dashboards, internal tooling, etc.) to improve the reliability, availability, and performance of our systems.

  • Work alongside product engineering teams to assess and execute on their infrastructure needs within the time defined by our product development cycles.

  • Monitor and continuously improve our local development and CI/CD workflows to improve developer quality of life, minimize internal disruptions, and safeguard deployments.

  • Participate in the engineering team's on-call rotation and respond to incidents.

Requirements

  • Mainland US/CAN only, available to work within US/CAN hours (We currently cover Eastern to Pacific).

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience deploying containerized workflows in AWS

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) technologies, preferably Terraform.

  • Demonstrable hands-on experience with CI/CD (Circle CI, GitHub Actions), containerization (Docker), and orchestration tools to streamline and automate deployment

  • Intermediate working knowledge of networking, firewalls, and load balancers.

  • Some experience in a programming language such as C, Rust, or Go (we’re partial to Go!).

  • Availability to participate in an on-call rotation

Nice to Haves

  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related discipline.

  • Intermediate knowledge and working experience with NoSQL document databases (MongoDB) and/or relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, etc.) systems.

  • Working knowledge of cloud security standards and legal/compliance frameworks such as SOC2, GDPR, etc.

  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, with the ability to handle diverse situations, complex projects, and changing priorities, behaving with passion, empathy, and care.

Salary range: US $155,000 - $190,000 + equity. Learn more about our compensation philosophy here . Visit our careers page for a list of our other benefits and a peek into life at Chromatic.
